All students at De La Salle Catholic College Caringbah will study the music course in Year 7 and 8. Students are involved in a variety of musical experiences including performing on the keyboard, guitar and drums. In the elective course in Years 9 and 10, students select to learn and play an instrument to extend their skills, performing and composing a range of styles including rock, classical and jazz music. Musicians also showcase their talents by performing on a number of public occasions including college music and open nights, parish masses and assemblies. Students at De La Salle are fortunate to work with passionate and dedicated educators that are active practitioners in their fields. This ensures that students receive an excellent grounding in preparation for the HSC course and beyond.

At De La Salle Catholic College Caringbah we have two bands that perform at many functions through the year for both the school and community.

Concert Band

Our concert band has over 50 players from all years, and undertakes a tour each year. Venues for the tour can include Port Stephens, Ulladulla or the Gold Coast. On these tours, the students perform at a variety of community venues for a wide range of audiences including clubs, theme parks, schools, malls.

The students also compete in group and solo competitions each year with great success.

The band rehearses on Wednesday afternoons from 2.50 – 4.15, and welcomes players from Our Lady of Mercy College Burraneer.

Jazz Band

De La Salle Catholic College Caringbah has a 20 piece ‘bigband’ formed to extend our more advanced musicians. This band rehearses during school time and has 16 players that learn to improvise and play more challenging music. They play music from the Glen Miller era through to current hits, performing at concert and community venues throughout the year.

This band rehearses during school time and enrols by invitation.

College Musical

Every second year De La Salle joins with Our Lady of Mercy College to present a full scale musical production. Rehearsals are during Friday activity time during Terms 2 and 3 and on weekends as the production time approaches.

Students learn many extra skills in singing, acting and movement and make friends in different year groups that they keep forever. They also experience cooperation and collaboration as well as enhancing their confidence and performance skills.

Productions are performed around 7 times for the local primary schools and the public.
